NBA 2K League Season 2 Preview: T-Wolves Gaming

Last Year

The NBA 2K League announced on August 15, 2018 that the Minnesota Timberwolves, along with three other teams, would join the original 17 teams for season two.

Two months later, T-Wolves Gaming named Shawn Vilvens their General Manager and Head Coach. Vilvens has actual basketball coaching experience as the Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach at Cincinnati Christian University. He is also licensed through Team USA as a player development coach. Vilvens also qualified and participated in the 2018 NBA 2K League Combine.

In the 2018 NBA 2K League Expansion Draft, T-Wolves Gaming had their first opportunity to add two players to their team prior to the season two draft. They selected Timothy “oLARRY” Anselimo with the No.3 pick, and they selected Mihad “iFEAST” Feratovic with the No.6 pick.

Quickly after the expansion draft, T-Wolves Gaming traded oLARRY to Cavs Legion for Brandon “Hood” Caicedo. Hood was one of the top leading scorers, averaging 29.2 PPG.

Draft Analysis

T-Wolves Gaming had a lot of positive momentum heading into the season two draft after landing iFEAST and Hood. Being an expansion team, T-Wolves Gaming had an opportunity to decide what they want their identity to be.

Regardless of what they wanted their identity to be, when T-Wolves Gaming was on the clock with the No.11 pick, Michael “BearDaBeast” Key was still on the board. They were not going to pass up on a great talent in BearDaBeast, whom was considered one of the top point guards in the draft.

In the second round, T-Wolves Gaming selected Christopher “Turnupdefense” Anderson with the No. 32 pick. Turnupdefense was a teammate of Hood’s on Cavs Legion last season and was the runner-up in the $250,000 MyTeam tournament.

With the No. 45 pick and No. 66 pick, T-Wolves Gaming selected Josiah “Dr_JoJo_30” Oetjen and season one fan favorite Bryan “NachoTraynor” Traynor respectively. Dr_JoJo_30 qualified at power forward in the combine, and NachoTraynor qualified at all five positions in the combine.

Overall, draft day could not have gone better for T-Wolves Gaming. BearDaBeast was possibly the steal of the draft and is an elite point guard to start a franchise with. As long as Hood and Turnupdefense are on good terms heading into season two, the future looks bright in the Twin Cities.

Season Two Prediction

There is not a better big three in the league on paper than Hood, BearDaBeast and iFEAST. If all three players mesh well together, the rest of the league is going to be in trouble. Turnupdefense, Dr_JoJo_30 and NachoTraynor are all great team chemistry players and will generate positive energy around the team.

The overall energy in Minnesota is buzzing right now. The team has almost finished building their new training center. Their new home is in Mayo Clinic Square, joining the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Minnesota Lynx. The new training center is state-of-the-art and sets a new standard for facilities in the NBA 2K League.

If all of the players buy-in to the incredible energy, which I believe they will, T-Wolves Gaming is going to be loaded with talent. Hood has a chip on his shoulder (when does he not?), and as long as he is able to bring his teammates with him, T-Wolves Gaming is going to be dangerous.

Prediction: 12-4 regular season record, 2nd seed
