Project Esports – Riot Games’ new logo, Throwing Crabs, and Will Smith

This week on the Project Esports Podcast the boys talk Riot Games’ New Logo, Daco being benched, NYXL win streak ending, OWL Views Down, Will Smith in Esports, PUBG banned in multiple countries, Crab Throws, and Mortal Kombat 11 going global!

The boys kick off this week by talking Riot Games’ New Logo! Riot shifted to a new minimal logo. Surprisingly everyone has mostly the same take on this one. Overall this seems like a good change for Riot, be it small.

Then the boys jump right into Project Overwatch, your favorite podcast within a podcast. Daco has been benched for apparent behavior issues. The catch is that he is refuting this is the reason. Overwatch League has also seen a decline in viewership with season 2. This may be due to the meta or the time shift to later games. Hours watch with VODs have stayed the same though.

Next the guys talk about the huge funding of GenG. Total raised was $46 million, one notable investor being Will Smith. GenG is owners on Overwatch League Team Seoul Dynasty.

Then they go into the video game ban from Nepal and Iraq. The countries banned a few games, but PUBG was the largest hit with Fortnite. Though the player base wasn’t giant for those countries, this is still terrible news for the community.

In Maryland Smash news, someone threw a Crab at HungryBox after he won the latest Smash Major. This following the Melee is dead meme, going around in the community. The boys have a good laugh about this, but do not condone the action.

Then in Hearthstone news, viewership is down from last year with the newest expansion. Though the player base is still the same, this spells some bad news for the future of the game.

The last big news for the week is Mortal Kombat 11, MK11 is making a big push with esports going into the launch of their game. Overall this should be good for giving the community the support they need.

The nights honorable mentions include: Prey retiring from League of Legends and JinAir + KT Rolster still somehow in the LCK.

Hope you all enjoyed this week’s episode, catch you all again next week for the Project Esports Podcast.
